Understanding the 7 Layers of Your Human Aura

chakra & aura May 25, 2026

Your spiritual aura is more than an invisible field around your body—it is the energetic space that supports, protects, and reflects your inner world. In this post, we’ll explore what the subtle energy bodies and spiritual aura are, how they relate to your personal energy system, and why understanding them can help you create greater balance, healing, and clarity in your life. As you begin to see yourself as more than just your egoic self, you embark on your spiritual journey toward deeper self-awareness, intentional living, and good health and well-being.

Let's look at what is an aura?  We have a physical body, and beyond it is our human aura.  It is an egg-shaped, subtle energy field that surrounds the physical body and contains the 7 layers of subtle energy bodies. It serves as a boundary between our personal energy system and the collective's energy system.

We are one with life, but there is also a separation between us and everybody else and everything else, and that separation comes through our human aura energy field. Within the aura is our personal energy system.  When we understand our body energy systems and learn how to work with our body's energy systems, we begin to bring about positive results in our physical life experience. We can do that when we work with all the layers of our subtle energy bodies.

So it is important to understand that the aura of a person is a wonderful protection against the rest of the world. Through it, we begin to regulate the flow of life force energy into the body. We exist on more than just air, food, and water. We also exist on vibrant life force energy and higher spiritual energies.

We have 7 chakras, each connected to a subtle energetic body within the aura. So the base chakra, which is the first chakra, is connected to the etheric body. The etheric body is the first layer outside of the physical body. Outside the etheric body is the emotional body, which is connected to the sacral chakra, the second chakra. It continues on like that. Each body encompasses the one beneath it and interpenetrates it, each creating a structure in which our physical body resides. Each one has its own dimension and aspects of who we are.

The first layer of our spiritual aura is the etheric body. It is like a blueprint of the physical body. It is the one most closely related to our physical life and experience. We do a lot of meditations in this body because we want to bring about health and healing into the physical body. We do that through the etheric body.  When we understand these levels within the aura, each layer represents an aspect of the self, an aspect of our personality, the bigger self, the bigger personality, and not just the smaller egoic mind.

We have 7 layers in our human aura. The first layer is most closely related to the physical world and concerns our survival. It is about the fact that we exist, that we have the right to exist, that we do exist, that we belong, and that we are safe. Issues around safety, security, and finances are usually lodged here. Anything about wanting to be here, to be alive—when we are struggling with any of those topics, we want to work with the base chakra. These are some of the issues that we address in the first layer of our subtle energy system.

Characteristics of the 7 chakras: each chakra has its own unique qualities. Certain emotional issues can affect the chakras known to process those emotions.  When we understand which chakra controls or holds information about a particular topic we might be struggling with, we can work with that chakra. We can work with that energy field to bring about a resolution within the whole of who we are.

So when we go through things in life, there are different ways to bring about healing. One way we can address the issues we are going through is by working with our chakras, our subtle energy bodies, and our aura. Because the human aura is our personal space, it is appropriate for us to take care of the space around us for the health of our physical body and all our energetic bodies.

When we start to see ourselves from this grander perspective, we are far more motivated to embark on a meditation practice that works with these systems, because we want better health, vitality, comfort, strength, and ease in the body. Working with it through a meditation practice to bring health into our lives is a really good use of time. I am bringing this information forward so you understand that these are dimensions of who you are, and by working with them, you can help break through some of the issues you may be facing.

So we do that in a meditation practice, working on the different aspects of our own aura and energy systems. We want to make sure the aura is healthy, and the structure is strong. We do meditations on the aura itself, that outer layer, making sure that we have integrity and self-respect—self-respect meaning we respect the whole self. We want our energetic systems to be structurally intact, to keep us healthy, safe, sane, clear, bright, alive, and focused, moving in the directions we want. We can do that through working with our energy systems.

Working with your aura is another way of working with your overall well-being, because it is the expanded part of you. Maybe you can see it, and maybe you cannot, but just because we cannot see it does not mean it is not there. So it is very worthwhile to work with these energetic systems to promote health. Once you start doing the meditations and feel shifts taking place, feel yourself letting go and experiencing a lightness of being, and feel the changes that are taking place, you are going to see the value in it for yourself. Working with the energetic systems around you can help support the health of your physical body and create the structure you want for your future and your manifestations.

Your aura is an extension of your inner world, holding the patterns, energies, and possibilities that shape your daily experience. As you begin to care for your aura through meditation and conscious awareness, you may find yourself feeling more grounded, clear, protected, and aligned in every area of life. The more you work with your energy system, the more you support not only your physical well-being, but also your emotional, spiritual, and creative growth. With patience and practice, this deeper connection to your aura can become a powerful pathway to healing, balance, and intentional transformation.

I look forward to meditating with you.
